This is reiterated in Scripture, as seen in Ecclesiastes 8:2-4: "When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong. Although a wicked person commits a hundred crimes and still lives a long time, I know that it will go better with God-fearing people, who are reverent before him."

The Fifth Amendment gives citizens the right to due process; the Sixth Amendment gives them the right to a fair trial; and the Eighth Amendment puts restrictions on excessive fines and bail. All of these come from a Christian worldview that is rooted in justice and mercy.

We see in Matthew 7:12, "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them; for this is the Law and the Prophets." The Bill of Rights provides Christians with respect for the rule of law and holds a nation to a higher standard of justice and mercy. Christians are to be law-abiding citizens, and the Bill of Rights provides certain legal protections that ensure they can practice their faith without fear or discrimination. It also stands as a reminder of the importance of justice and mercy in society.

As Romans 13:4 states, "For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer."
