Christ was the greatest revolutionary of all time. He took a hand full of disciples and used them to turn the world upside down. You are part of His revolutionary army, the priesthood of kings (1 Peter 2:9).
After the resurrection, Christ met with His followers. They were anxious to start their ministries, but Jesus knew they needed the power of the Holy Spirit for success. After all, they would face demonic principalities, powers, and spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places. Like you, they would battle the carnal spirit of religion, demonic witchcraft, Jezebel spirits, racism, and anti-Christ forces of all types. They needed power. Holy Ghost power. That same anointing that came on Jesus.
Christ had already taught them much about the ministry of the Holy Spirit and more was to come. He gave his anxious team instruction, “And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, you have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence” (Acts 1:4-5).
You already know what happened. They gathered in the Upper Room and all of a sudden the Holy Spirit came upon each of them. “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:2-4). Those gathered in prayer that day were endued with power from on high. Power to witness, power to preach, and power to cast out devils.
Apostle Peter described the scene saying, “This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy” (Acts 2:16-18).
This is why you need the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That baptism is the enduement of spiritual power. Power to turn the world upside down. Power to join the revolution.
