Praying and believing are two different things. The Bible says this, “What things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them” (Mark 11:24). From this scripture, you learn that it's possible to pray without believing. We call that a waste of time. It's religious praying, a form of godliness, and a dead religious activity. Don't do it.
Again, there is a difference between praying and believing. A man testified how God healed him from a noncurable genetic disorder that affected his ability to walk. He was in pain for many years. The interesting thing about his testimony was this, he said he was praying a lot, but more than that, he was believing a lot. That really got my attention. The man's testimony is a profound truth. Notice again that it's possible to pray without believing. That kind of praying has no power.
The word of God makes it clear, “But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).
There are two times when Christ was amazed. Both times reveal the importance of praying in faith. Once in his hometown where he could do no mighty works because of their unbelief (Mark 6:5). And the other when the Centurion said it wasn't necessary to come to his house. “Just speak the word only and my servant shall be healed” (Matthew 8:8).
The bottom line is this, prayer should always be mixed with faith. James said it this way when he wrote that “the prayer of faith” would heal the sick (James 5:15). Unbelieving prayer is a waste of time. As already said, don't do it. When you pray believe that you receive.
