Standing Firm in Truth: Don't Compromise with Devils or Religious Hypocrites

Stop Being So Nice 1Some Christians are just too nice. They try to be everyone's friend. They compromise because they are weak. Jesus didn't raise a bunch of weak followers and, he didn't teach his disciples to be push overs. Jesus trained his followers to take a stand for truth.

Notice Christ didn't ignore demon powers. He cast them out and trained his Disciples to do the same. One day Jesus sent his team into some villages with instruction to preach the gospel of the kingdom. He warned that some would reject the message. “But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you” (Luke 10:10-11). Jesus didn't teach them to compromise the gospel or to make friends with them but to shake even the dust off their feet if they refused the message.

Rejection of Christ and his kingdom was going to happen but these Disciples didn't focus on that and you shouldn't either. These believers returned with great joy saying, “Even the devils were subject unto us through thy name” (Luke 10:17).

Christ didn't compromise with devils, he cast them out. He didn't compromise with religious Pharisees, he exposed their hypocrisy. Fortitude, spiritual strength, and boldness is part of the Christian lifestyle.

To be a Disciple of Christ will require you to take a stand for truth. Scripture says, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ” (Ephesians 4:14-15).

Never compromise your faith and conviction. Compromise can be a serious trap. Some compromise because they don't have enough spiritual backbone to stand up to opposition from those with a religious or anti-Christ spirit. Someone with a religious spirit is hypocritical, judgmental, self-righteous, and legalistic. Others with an anti-Christ spirit are opposed to biblical truth.

There are times when your faith in God and his word will be challenged. Apostle Paul instructed us to be strong in the Lord. He wrote, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:10-11). Sooner or later you are going to offend someone and be tempted to compromise. Don't do it. Take a stand for truth. Be strong and say what needs to be said without buckling. Stop being so nice.
