Gaining Wisdom and Understanding Through Bible Education: Transforming Character with the Renewing of the Mind

Wisdom Is The Principle ThingThe goal of education is not money, title, company position, accolades, trophies, or rewards. The goal of education is about imparting knowledge needed for your journey in life as well as transforming character. Character is important. Superior education might help you reach certain heights of achievement, but character will keep you there.

The Bible warns against fashioning or conforming yourself after the world but instructs you to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. The renewing of your mind changes you. It helps you change the way you think. It helps you see life differently. It brings you out of the lowest of character and directs you to the highest of character in regards to the ability to receive understanding and to apply it to life.

Character requires wisdom. The Bible says,” Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honor when thou dost embrace her” (Proverbs 4:7-8).

Wisdom, true wisdom, is the ability to understand and, most importantly, apply knowledge. Many can quote Scripture, for example, but don't know how to apply Scripture in their lives. The is common and unfortunate. The great knowledge and instruction that comes from biblical truth needs to be applied through wisdom. Biblical truth applied requires help from the Holy Spirit. It is his ministry that imparts wisdom. He is the great revealer of truth. Even his name, Spirit of Truth, confirms this.

The word of God has a general surface-level meaning but also has many depths. God gave Joshua instruction in this regard. He said, “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success”(Joshua 1:8, AMP). Meditating on the word of God unlocks the understanding and wisdom you need as a disciple of Christ.

One day Jesus was teaching a group of people in parables. Parables are stories. Afterward, his disciples asked him why he taught them with parables. His answer was interesting and revealing. “And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them, it is not given” (Matthew 13:10-11). Christ taught them stories because of their lack of seeing and lack of hearing. In other words, they saw and heard but didn't grasp what he was saying. But for his disciples, he spoke in a different manner, a direct manner. He said that the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven belonged to them.

As already said, wisdom is the principal thing. With wisdom, you will be able to apply understanding. Make a decision today to study the word of God, meditate on the word of God, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the mysteries of the Kingdom.
