Edit Your Relationships: A Guide to Discernment with Scripture and Biblical Wisdom

Make sure your relationships are beneficial for your walk with God with this guide to discernment. Is it time for you to edit some of your relationships? Have you noticed as you mature in the things of God that your relationships with some get shallow and less meaningful? What about relationships with people that are not moving in the same biblical direction as yourself? 

There is no doubt that there are good and healthy relationships and there are bad and toxic relationships. 

The fact is, some people just don’t value what you value. They want to live in the past and others simply like their sorrowful condition. 

God makes it plain about relationships. He declared, “Don’t be unequally yoked.” Let’s look at this Scripture in the Message Bible. 

“Don't become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That's not partnership; that's war. "

Is light best friends with dark? Does Christ go strolling with the Devil? Do trust and mistrust hold hands? 

Who would think of setting up pagan idols in God's holy Temple? But that is exactly what we are, each of us a temple in whom God lives. God himself put it this way: "I'll live in them, move into them; I'll be their God and they'll be my people. 

So leave the corruption and compromise; leave it for good," says God. 

Don't link up with those who will pollute you. I want you all for myself” (2 Corinthians 6:14-17, MSG). 

I’m sure you can relate to this question, “Is light best friends with darkness?” That’s the bottom line. Sometimes you must step back and look at your relationships. Are they godly? Are you walking in the light and your friends walking in the darkness? 

Deuteronomy 22:10 is interesting. It reads, “Don’t plow with an ox or a donkey yoked together.” My Bible commentary reads, “Two different species cannot associate comfortably together, nor pull pleasantly either in cart or plough; and the ass being lower than the ox, when yoked, he must bear the principal part of the weight.” 

As a born-again Disciple of Christ, you are living and walking in the light of God’s word. Stay away from the darkness of sin and those comfortable with sin. If need be, edit your relationships using the light of God’s word.
