It also examines how God's instructions and words will lead to predetermined results and how we should speak what God says. Finally, it looks at how Jesus said that if we abide in Him and His words abide in us, we will bear much fruit and be His disciples. This article highlights the power of words and how they can lead to success and prosperity.

Spiritual words, power, change, and success. What happens when the “movement” is over, and God wants to do a new thing? How would you react if your spiritual father finished his course and crossed over to the other side? It happened to Joshua when Moses died.

When Moses died that movement died. It was time for the next generation to arise, but before the next generation could arise, God needed to release fresh new words for a fresh new season. With those words came instruction and promised benefits for obedience.

Every time there is a seasonal change in your life and ministry, words are involved. That’s because the Holy Spirit never puts new wine in old bottles.

“No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.” (Matthew 9:16-17)

When God speaks to you, he carefully assembles words together. These words are tailored just for you. These words are filled with your assignment. Certain words will inspire you. Other words stir you. And still, other words speak to your future. God knows which words excite you, that change your season, and give you joy, peace, and courage. Let’s read what happened after Moses died.

“Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.” (Joshua 1:1-3)

“Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.” (Joshua 1:7)

Read the instruction in this verse. “Turn not from all the law to the right or to the left.” That’s instruction. The instruction you obey determines the benefits you receive. In other words, stay focused. Focus is the ability to see without distraction. Focus is concentrated attention. Focus and obedience will lead to a result. God says if you follow the instruction there is a predetermined result, you will prosper everywhere you go. Words are involved in your success and prosperity. The secret is saying what God says. Here is one of the most appealing promises in the Word of God.

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)

God’s instruction to Joshua was, “This book of the law shall depart out of thy mouth.” Your mouth has a purpose; its purpose is for speaking. Speaking is different than hearing. If you have been a Christian for a long time, it’s likely you have heard much teaching on hearing and not much on speaking. Hearing is a good thing. Scripture says that faith cometh only by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). Nevertheless, words are always involved in moving you forward in the things of God.

HEART AND CONFESSION

God never does anything without the involvement of words. As mentioned before, every law within the kingdom of God is activated by the word of God and nothing else. So it’s possible to be a hearer of the word and never activate your blessings because you have not learned to speak. Scripture declares, “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10). Notice the connection between heart and confession. James taught that you must be a hearer and a doer of the Word,

“For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed” (James 1:23-25).

Joshua represented a new generation of leadership, and it was time to enter the Promised Land. To enter required certain words to be released into Joshua’s heart. It wasn’t enough, however, for Joshua to hear the words of God, he needed to meditate on and speak the words of God. If Joshua followed the instruction, he would reap the benefits.

Consider this. If God can assemble words together and speak them into your life, then you can join words together and speak them into your life. Jesus said, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples” (John 15:7-8). Prosperity is connected to words. Success is linked to words. Health is linked to words. Remember, words are destinations. God’s words are his destinations.

I’m sure you want prosperity, success, health, and fulfillment of your kingdom assignment. Learn the power of words. Find the words you need and repeat them. “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8).
