Parable of the Sower teaches you the power of words to change your life. Words are seeds. Words can be planted. Words look for good soil. The Bible says that God provides seed to the Sower. Seeds, good or bad, contain a harvest.
Jesus taught his Disciples the Parable of the Sower. He said, “The sower soweth the word” (Mark 4:14). According to Christ, there are four different places seed can land: the wayside, stony ground, among thorns, and good ground. All four of these are very different, and only one will give a lasting harvest.
Wayside
“And these are they by the wayside, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts” (Mark 4:15).
Stony Ground
“And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended” (Mark 4:16-17).
Among Thorns
“And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful” (Mark 4:18-19).
Good Ground
“And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred” (Mark 4:20).
You have already learned, “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things” (Matthew 12:35). Your heart was designed by God to germinate seed whether that seed is good or bad. In other words, the heart doesn’t care what kind of seed is sown in it. That seed will sprout.
Words are seeds looking for a relationship with soil. Good soil knows how to grow good seed. Good soil knows how to produce an abundant harvest. Bad soil knows how to grow bad seed. Bad soil knows how to produce an abundant harvest. This is why it’s important to be careful what seed you sow. All seed produces after its own kind.
Jesus taught if you don’t understand the Parable of the Sower you would not understand how the kingdom of God operates. In other words, the Parable of the Sower is the master key to understanding all the spiritual laws of the kingdom.
The Parable of the Sower is about the spiritual law that governs the universe. “For whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7). You can see this spiritual principle also working in the natural. When you plant a seed in good ground, it sprouts and brings forth a harvest. It does the same in the unseen spirit world.
KIND BEGETS KIND
If you plant a mango seed in China it will produce a mango, never an orange. If you plant a mango seed in the United States, it will produce a mango, never an apple. That’s because seed produces after its own kind. Scripture declares, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22). This kingdom principle was set in motion by God and will continue as long as the earth remains.
Jesus likened the functioning of this spiritual law to sowing seed. “And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come” (Mark 4:26-29).
Christ explained the law of the seed. Notice this powerful truth, the man doesn’t know how the seed springs up, grows, and produces a harvest. He just throws out the seed. Some get stuck right here. Because they don’t know how to do a thing they get paralyzed in their faith and do nothing.
SEED KNOWS WHAT TO DO
Jesus answered uncertainty right here. He taught that you don’t need to know how to fix your problems, the seed knows. The seed was designed by God to produce a harvest. Seeds are words. When you release them, they are looking for the good ground of a faith-filled heart.
Learn the power of words. Sowing is the master key to understanding all the laws of the kingdom. Find the words you need to speak and repeat them. Remember these two things. A seed that is never sown can never produce a harvest, and the size of the crop is determined by the sower, not God. Scripture says,
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men (not God) give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:38).
The Bible is full of precious promises. To unlock those promises requires an action on your part. Put your seed to work. The seed knows what to do. Scripture says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21).
