Navigating the Storms of Life: Speak the Word of God into Your Storms

The Storms of Life Attack Do ThisWhen the storms of life attack, don't wake up the Word in the boatwake up the Word in you! In times of difficulty when life throws a storm your way, the Word of God can be a powerful tool to help you navigate the storm. Discover how to tap into the power of God's Word to speak faith into the storm and reach the other side.

When the storms of life attack, do this. Navigating the storms of life can be confusing. Some storms will attack your life but how you handle the storms makes you different than others.

One day Christ told his Disciples to board a ship and go to the other side.

“And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full.” (Mark 4:35-37)

While crossing the sea, a great storm arose with wind, waves, and water filling the boat. The storm was so severe the disciples began to fear for their lives. Where was Jesus? Sleeping.

“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” (Mark 4:38-41)

This event is filled with spiritual truths. First, the Disciples were in the perfect will of God. He said, “Let us pass over unto the other side.” While being obedient, a great storm attacked the ship. The storm was so bad it could only be described as demonic. The ship was filling with water. The storm didn’t want the ship to make it to the other side. This event can be likened to the spiritual warfare that attacks your life when you are obeying the Lord. In the midst of the storm, Jesus was sleeping.

Have you ever been in the middle of a storm and wondered where God was? Jesus, the Word of God, was in the boat with them. Not only was the word of God in the ship, the word of God had already spoken.

The word of God is the will of God. The word of God is the plan of God. And the word of God is the path to your destination.

The Disciples didn’t understand the power of the word of God in them, that’s why they woke Jesus. Instead of being motivated by faith, they were full of fear.

Some of us are trying to wake Jesus in the midst of our storm after he has already spoken. Remember, words have power. Words are destinations. Scripture declares "this book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth," and when you speak, "you will have whatsoever you sayeth."

Stop trying to wake up the Word in the boat, Christ is trying to wake up the word in you. Speak to the storm and command it to cease. Speak to the mountain, and command it to move. Let the word of faith be nigh thee, even in your heart and in your mouth (Romans 10:8). You will make it to the other side. Learn this lesson well and start speaking the will of God into the storms of life. The word of God cannot fail.

Jesus said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5). The vine is not bearing fruit, the branches are bearing fruit. He is the vine, you are the branches. You shall decree a thing, and it shall be established. Find the words you need to speak and repeat them.

A Jamaican pastor requested a meeting with me. He told me his church was growing, the Spirit of God was blessing, and lives were changing to the glory of God. His personal life, he explained, was one spiritual battle after another. He told me other pastors advised him that he must somehow be out of the will of God.

After his testimony, I reminded him of the storm that came against the Disciples as they were obeying Christ. Spiritual warfare is sometimes, not always, the result of disobedience. At other times it’s because you are in the perfect will of God. If a storm attacks your life, stand up and command it to cease in Jesus name. You are going to the other side.
