Encountering the Uncommon Man

Surround yourself with uncommon men and remember that one conversation can change your life. You will come into contact with thousands of people in your life. Most of them are common and ordinary in every way. Sometimes, however, you will encounter the uncommon man. It’s these uncommon people that can change the course of your life.

Divine revelation is often connected to divine appointments. Divine appointments are meetings arranged by the Holy Spirit with people that have something in them that you need in you. Divine appointments will change the direction of your life. These divine appointments are with men and women that I call the uncommon man.  

You will come into contact with thousands of people in your life. Most of them are common and ordinary in every way. Sometimes, however, you will encounter the uncommon man. It’s these uncommon people that can change the course of your life. 

A Samaritan woman experienced a divine appointment with Jesus. This testimony is well known among Christians. During the meeting, Jesus asked the woman for something to drink. This surprised her because the Jews and Samaritans didn’t get along with each other, but this was no ordinary Jew. This was a meeting with an uncommon man.

“Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou would have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?” (John 4:6-11)

KNOW WHO YOU ARE TALKING TO

A lot happened at this meeting with the Samaritan. To paraphrase, Christ told the woman, “If you knew the gift (uncommon man) you were talking to, you wouldn’t be asking me common questions, but uncommon questions and I would give you uncommon answers.

• Know who you are talking to.
• Surround yourself with uncommon men.
• One conversation can change your life.

Knowing who you are talking to is important. “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels” (Proverbs 1:5). Look for the wise and different. Draw on the divine revelation within them. It’s the uncommon man the Holy Spirit brings into your life that has something significant to impart, inspire, and encourage.

When you are faced with a divine appointment, recognize it for what it is, and take advantage of the opportunity to be changed.
