Demonic Battle For A New America

Join the battle for a new America and experience the increase of His government and peaceThere are many kinds of war. There are civil, religious, class and the highest of all, spiritual. As we take a moment to pull back the curtain we understand the true warfare is the battle against God fueled by the hatred of Satan. Scripture reveals his wicked heart.

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which dist weaken the nations! For thou has said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High” (Isaiah 14:12-14).

It is interesting that Lucifer wants to “be like the Most High.” The reality is the war for dominion is still raging in the heavens and playing out on the earth. It’s the men on earth that are choosing sides, some to evil and others to righteousness. “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it” (Jeremiah 17:9). According to St. Augustine, the sinfulness of man makes him “devoid of rational will…for not even lions or dragons have ever waged with their kind such wars as men have waged with one another.”

Pastor Samuel Miller rises to the measure of a spiritual reformer. He preached in New York City, July 4th, 1793 on the “Independence of America.” His opening text was, “And where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty” (2 Corinthians 3:17).

“Let us bless his holy name that under the influence of this light we have been led to assert the dignity of human nature, to throw off the chains of oppression, to think and act for ourselves and to acknowledge no other king than the King of the universe.

Let us bless his name, that, under the guidance of the same light, we have been led to frame a constitution, which recognizes the natural unalienable rights of men; which renounces all limits to human liberty.

Do you wish to stand fast in that liberty wherewith the Governor of the universe hath made you free? Do you desire the increasing prosperity of your country? Do you wish to see the law respected, good order preserved, and universal peace to prevail? Are you convinced that purity of morals is necessary for these important purposes? Do you believe that the Christian religion is the firmest basis of morality?

And while you tell to your children and to your children’s children, the wonderful works of the Lord, and the great deliverance which He hath wrought for us, teach them to remember the Author of thee blessings and they will know how to estimate their value. Teach them to acknowledge the God of heaven as their King and they will despise submission to earthy despots. Teach them to be Christians and they will ever be free!”

Without Christ, none can be free and without His overcoming word the chains of tyranny cannot be broken. Christ is our source, and we should never look to men as the staff of our hope.

French historian Alexis de Tocqueville discovered the greatness of America.

“In the end, the state of the Union comes down to the character of the people. … I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, and it was not there. I sought for it in the fertile fields, and boundless prairies, and it was not there. I sought it in her rich mines and vast world commerce, and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power.”

The greatness Tocqueville discovered has its source in the greatest reformer of all time, Jesus, King of kings and Lord of lords. As already said, Christ has called all his disciples to carry a reforming spirit.

I am reminded of the testimony of Peter and John that met the lame beggar at the Gate Beautiful. Peter said, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk” (Acts 3:6). You cannot give someone something you don’t have yourself. The responsibility of freedom sits squarely on the pulpits of America. If we are going to hear freedom bells equipping the saints for liberty from despots, those sounds must start within our churches. Charles Finny, the great “New Measures Revivalists” during the Second Great Awakening, spoke of the responsibility of our preachers.

“Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics becomes so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.”

The apostolic restoration of the Church of Christ is awakening to the responsibility of equipping and empowering every believer to join the battle. It bears repeating, Scripture declares that Christ must reign until all enemies are put under His feet.

If we are to fight off the battle for a new America, we must know the truth. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” We must see clearly and understand the true enemy is found within the evil hearts of men, not in free-market capitalism or class warfare.

Yes, the battle is raging, but the awakening has begun. It’s time to blow the trumpet in Zion and wake up the mighty men. Our redemption draweth nigh. The good news is this,

“Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will perform this” (Isaiah 9:7).

Just as in the days of Pharaoh, God has heard the cries of His people by reason of their taskmasters and has come down to deliver them. I am convinced the Spirit of Liberty is on the way.
