Believer's Authority: Unlock Your Destiny and Influence Your World

The Believer's AuthorityUnlock your destiny and influence your world with the believer's authorityThe believer's authority is the power of God to enforce the Word of God in your life. As a born-again believer, you've been given a measure of spiritual authority to overcome all the power of the enemy. Jesus said, “I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means harm you” (Luke 10:19).

AUTHORITY TO RULE

This Scripture speaks of your authority to rule as part of a priesthood of kings. The Apostle Peter had a revelation of that authority to govern. In his letter he wrote, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). The Greek word for royal is basileios. It means regal, royal and kingly. Imagine that! You are part of a governing kingly priesthood. Has anyone ever told you that? More importantly, do you see yourself as a regal believer?

Your kingship as a Christian doesn’t start when you get to heaven. It started the day you were born again and were translated out of a dark, demonically inspirited kingdom into Christ's Kingdom of light and power. You are now a “new creature,” a new species ready to learn of your authority to make a difference in this world.

DELEGATED AUTHORITY

Your delegated authority is defined by three important kingly assignments: to build, restore and govern. I often write regarding these three words. To me, they capture something we need desperately in this generation that provides definition and direction to the victorious believer. They also represent some things we have lost. Things like ambition, work ethics, and thrift. Ralph Waldo Emerson penned some interesting words about the Englishman of his generation. Let’s take a look at some shared values Emerson mentions.

“The respect for truth of facts in England is equaled only by the respect for wealth. It is at once the pride of art of the Saxon, as he is a wealth-maker and his passion for independence. The Englishman believes that every man must take care of himself, and has himself to thank if he does not mend his condition. To pay their debts is their national point of honor. From the Exchequer and the East India House to the huckster’s shop, everything prospers because it is solvent.”

Contrast a people that once prided themselves on the ability to create wealth to those in the 21st century bound by debt and dependent on failed government fiscal policies to take care of them. This holds true not only of the Englishman but of the American too. Emerson went on to brag about the Englishman’s labor and thrift.

“If they cannot pay, they do not buy; for they have no presumption of better fortunes next year, as our people have; and they say without shame, I cannot afford it.” He even quotes painter Benjamin Haydon that says, “There is a fierce resolution to make every man live according to the means he possesses.”

As you can tell, times have changed since Emerson and Haydon. No longer are we a people of thrift and labor but a nation of consumers in bondage to debt. I believe that God offers us a way of escape just like those bound in Egypt under Pharaoh. When God heard their prayers because of their taskmasters, He remembered His covenant and came down to deliverer them. We are thousands of years away from Egyptian bondage, but the same spirit that captured God’s people is still on the earth. This time it’s different. This time we have Christ our King ready to lead us to victory. Opportunity for freedom is knocking. Can you hear the sound?

INFLUENCING YOUR WORLD

As we mature in the things of God, we get past our self-centeredness and begin to see the world differently, in other words, our world-view changes. Even our perspective begins to change from a temporal point of view that is limited to our lives alone toward a greater grasp of God’s eternal purpose. Again, Christ has delegated to you a measure of spiritual authority and power. That authority is used to build, restore and to govern. Not only do you have spiritual authority, but Christ has also sent the Holy Spirit to back that authority. He is your teacher and will empower you with the truth within the inner man. That truth is the principles of the Kingdom of heaven and with these principles or said another way the laws of the Kingdom, you can unlock your destiny.

As a Christian, you have a responsibility to learn how to influence your world, not withdraw from it. Engaging the world around you is an exciting journey indeed. This is how you break free from doldrums and boredom, the twin doors toward sin.

The Holy Spirit is your teacher. He is also your source for a revelation of your right to govern. Spiritual and natural government is ineffective without power. The Holy Ghost in you is that power. You can trust Him to lead you and guide you into all truth. It is that same power that raised Christ from the dead. It is unstoppable. That same power is available to all God’s sons and daughters to enforce the Word of God in their lives.

To rule by natural authority alone cannot avoid corruption. Even America’s Founding Fathers knew the survival of our nation was dependent on our relationship with Christ. That too is why the Father sent us the Holy Spirit as teacher and helper. He not only leads and guides us in all truth He backs up the Word of God with power in our lives.

Our God is sovereign, and, as the Sovereign King of Glory, He holds “in union” both power and authority. His servants are under His sovereignty and are citizens of His Kingdom. We need to think about this for a minute because sovereign means, “Not controlled by outside forces.” It also means greatest in status, authority, and power, autonomous and self-governed.

Our God is self-governed. Think about that. He is governed only by His own Word. Man, a created being, however, can never be Sovereign, entirely autonomous or self-governed. Nor can he avoid the consequences of death, both spiritual and natural outside of Christ. Man needs a savior. Man cannot save himself.

Liberal Socialists need to come to grips with this. There is no socialized, enlightened utopian man. Man’s wisdom is corrupted. God’s is not. At the end of the day, man can only look toward the Sovereign one who will judge both the living and the dead.

Like I said at the beginning of this essay, “Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end.” Be encouraged. He will empower you to overcome all things. To overcome however will require you to order your life with the Word of God. To order your life, you must learn His Word and implement it within your life. If you want direction, you must grasp the hand of the one described as “the Way, the Truth and the Life.” You are not a saved Adam. You are now in Christ, complete in Him and a new creature.

The days ahead will be exciting for sure. Let the kings arise.
