Empty Words, Empty Promises: The Dangers of Prophetic Noise

Beware of prophetic noise, for it is the confusing, even deceptive language of immature, false, and wrong prophets and prophetic words.  Prophetic noise is everywhere. Propetic noise is prophecy that doesn't mean anything and is just spiritual-sounding prophetic-sounding cllutter.

Prophetic noise is a form of ambidious sayings that don't mean much and can be interpeted in several ways. This is wrong because prophetic ministry should be easy to understand. If not, then something is wrong.

The Bible warns against prophets and their confusing and deceptive words, which is known as prophetic noise. This term refers to prophecy that does not hold any distinctive meaning and is simply empty spiritual sounding noise from those who desire to appear spiritual. It is a form of ambiguous language that can often leave people confused and uncertain about what is being said. Here are some examples.

PROPHET JEREMIAH

In the book of Jeremiah, God speaks through the prophet about the false prophets who claim to have a message from Him, but in reality, their words are only noise.

In Jeremiah 23:16–17, God says, "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you; they are leading you into pointless futility. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, 'It shall be well with you;' and to everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, 'No disaster shall come upon you.'"

God is warning His followers not to believe the false prophets who purport to speak for Him but are really just expressing their own selfish opinions. Their words do not align with God's will and are simply empty noise that leads people into false hope.

PROPHET HOSEA

In the book of Hosea, the prophet rebukes Israel for false acts of piety and empty words—in other words prophetic confusion and noise.

In Hosea 8:1, God says, "Blow the trumpet! Sound the alarm! Vultures are circling over God's people, who have broken my covenant and defied my revelation. Predictably, Israel cries out, 'My God! We know you!' But they don't act like it. Israel will have nothing to do with what's good, and now the enemy is after them." They crown kings, but without asking me. They set up princes, but don't let me in on it. Instead, they make idols (prophesy noise) using silver and gold, idols that will be their ruin. (Hosea 8:1-4 MSG).

The people of Israel were putting on a show of piety and claiming to know God, but their actions were not aligned with God's law. To God, their words were merely noise, as they did not truly know Him or follow His commands.

JESUS

In the New Testament, Jesus also warns against empty and meaningless prayers in Matthew 6:5. He says, "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly, I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

Jesus is warning against the religious leaders who prayed loud and showy prayers for the sake of self-glorification rather than genuinely communicating with God. He calls their prayers "empty phrases" and states that they have already received their reward for seeking attention from men rather than seeking a true relationship with God.

APOSTLE PAUL

The apostle Paul also warns against using spiritual gifts, such as speaking in tongues, for the sake of self-glorification. In 1 Corinthians 13:1. He says, "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal."

Paul is emphasizing the importance of using spiritual gifts with a heart of love for others, rather than for the sake of boasting or self-glorification. Without love, these gifts are simply noise, just like a resounding gong or clanging cymbal.

APOSTLE PETER

In the book of 2 Peter, the apostle warns against false teachers and their deceptive words.

2 Peter 2:17, he says, "These are wells without water, mist driven by a storm, for whom the blackest darkness has been reserved. For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error."

False teachers (or those in prophetic error) entice others with their boastful words and empty promises, but they have nothing of substance to offer. Their words are mere noise, leading people astray and causing them to stumble in their faith.

PROPHET EZEKIEL

Even in the book of Ezekiel, God rebukes the false prophets who speak their own visions and claim they are from Him.

In Ezekiel 13:6-7, God says, "They have seen false visions and lying divinations. They say, 'Declares the Lord,' (or 'God says,') when the Lord has not sent them, and yet they expect him to fulfill their word. Have you not seen a false vision and uttered a lying divination whenever you have said, 'Declares the Lord,' although I have not spoken?"

God is exposing the wrong prophetic ministries for their deceptive words and false visions. He declares that their prophecies are nothing but vain and foolish delusions, or, in other words, empty noise that holds no true prophetic meaning.

In conclusion, prophetic noise is a warning against empty, confusing, and deceptive words that do not hold any true prophetic meaning. Prophets need to be very careful when declaring that God said this or that. Much of the time, God didn't say anything. It is a warning against prophets who claim to speak on behalf of God but are in prophetic error.

JUDGING PROPHECY

EASILY UNDERSTOOD
"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils" (1 Timothy 4:1).

TESTED
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits to see whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God; and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now it is already in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:1–4).

EXALTS CHRIST NOT SELF
"And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus, worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (Revelation 19:10)

CALLED TO JUDGE ALL THINGS
"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged by no man. For who has known the mind of the Lord so that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of  Christ."(1 Corinthians 2:14–16)

PROPHETIC STATESMENSHIP
And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. (1 Corinthians 14:32)

DO YOU HAVE THE UNCTION?
"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."
(2 Peter 1:21)

DID PROPHECY COME TRUE?
HOLD PROPHET ACCOUNTABLE
DOES THE PROPHECY MEAN ANYTHING?

As disciples of Christ, it is important to discern and test the words of those who claim to have a message from God or to speak on His behalf. This is where people are failing. All prophetic words and declarations should be tested against the written word of God. Let us cling to the truth of God's word rather than fall for the confusion of prophetic noise.
