Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a spiritual experience that every believer should seek. In the book of Acts, we see the early Christians receiving this baptism, and it transformed their lives and empowered them to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth.
As believers, it is essential for us to understand the importance of this baptism and its evidence of speaking in other tongues. In this article, we will look at seven reasons why a person should be baptized in the Holy Ghost using KJV Bible scriptures and explanations.
1. Jesus commanded it.
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus commands his disciples to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit before they go out and preach the gospel. He says, “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49, KJV). This promise of the Holy Spirit was fulfilled in the book of Acts, when the believers were all in one accord and received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. If Jesus specifically commanded us to receive this baptism, then it is something we should seek with all our hearts.
2. It is an evidence of our salvation.
In the book of Acts, we see evidence of individuals receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit. In Acts 10:44–48, the Gentiles who were gathered in Cornelius’ house were baptized in the Holy Ghost and spoke with tongues, and the Jews with Peter were amazed at this evidence. This is a powerful testimony to the fact that receiving the baptism in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues is a sign of our salvation and justification before God.
3. It empowers us to be witnesses.
In Acts 1:8, Jesus tells his disciples that they will receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon them, and they shall be witnesses unto him. This power is not just physical strength, but spiritual power given by the Holy Spirit. When we are baptized in the Holy Ghost, we receive boldness and the ability to preach the gospel with power and effectiveness. This empowerment is essential for fulfilling the Great Commission, which is to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19).
4. It is a gift from God.
In Acts 2:38, Peter preaches to the crowd on the day of Pentecost and tells them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (KJV). The baptism in the Holy Spirit is not something we can earn or work for; it is a gift from God. As believers, we should eagerly desire this gift and receive it with thankfulness and humility.
5. Tongues are a heavenly language.
The evidence of being baptized in the Holy Ghost is speaking in other tongues. This is a unique and heavenly language that is given to us by the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 14:2, it says, “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit, he speaketh mysteries” (KJV). This heavenly language is a direct line of communication between us and God, and it allows us to pray in a deeper and more intimate way.
6. It helps us to pray effectively.
Romans 8:26-27 says, “Likewise, the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings that cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God” (KJV). When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, we are given the ability to pray effectively and in accordance with God's will, even when we don't know what to pray for.
7. It edifies and strengthens us.
In 1 Corinthians 14:4, it says, “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church” (KJV). Speaking in tongues is a way to build ourselves up spiritually. It allows the Holy Spirit to work within us and strengthen our inner being. This spiritual edification helps us grow in our relationship with God and become better witnesses for Him.
In conclusion, being baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues is a crucial experience for every believer. It is a commandment from Jesus, a sign of our salvation, and a gift from God. This baptism empowers us to be effective witnesses, allows us to communicate with God in a unique way, helps us to pray effectively, and edifies and strengthens us spiritually. As believers, let us earnestly seek this baptism and allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives and empower us to fulfill our purpose in sharing the gospel with the world.
