Worldly churchgoers are those that have a form of godliness. The Bible says, “from such turn away.” A form of godliness means you look Christian but don’t act Christian. Christianity has a moral code. That moral code is found in the moral values of Christianity. So, playing around with God through carnal actions and sin is a bad idea. Scripture declares,
“For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity (hostile) against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be” (Romans 8:6-7).
Worldly churchgoers look the part but don’t live the Christian life. Some may be born again (?) but continue living a dangerous life of sinful behavior. It’s one thing to have sinned and confessed your sin, it’s another thing to continue living in sin. Sorry, that doesn’t fly.
You can’t be a part-time Christian in a world with full-time devils. Sure, you are saved by grace through faith and not by works, but one should never take God’s grace for granted. That’s a dangerous game that has eternal consequences. Someone once said that the proof of salvation was a change, a coming out of your old carnal ways.
Some say they are going to church but just because you go to church doesn’t mean you are pleasing God. Thousands sit in churches throughout the world and never submit themselves to the word of God. They are certainly not doers of the Word.
To follow God fully is a foreign concept to these churchgoers. Others more refuse the light and walk in darkness. Christ spoke of the light. He said, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil” (John 3:19).
Disciples of Christ are taught to avoid certain things such as being conformed to this world. We don’t get our fashion, for example, from the world. We don’t get our language, music, design of family, or worldview from reprobate social media, politicians, or late-night comics.
As already said, there is a danger when leaving the light to walk in darkness. Don’t play games with God. Live the life. Meditate on this Scripture. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). Go ahead. Don’t be like those that are playing games with God. Understand that it’s time to get right and stay right. Put Christ first in your life.
