Powerful Words of the Spiritual Warfare Warrior

Spiritual warfare warriors fight with spiritual words. Words start wars and words end wars. Words are heard in the natural and words are heard in the unseen spirit world.

 One day Daniel was fasting and praying. This wasn’t like any ordinary prayer, there was spiritual warfare in it. There was contention in it. This went on for twenty-one days culminating with an encounter with an angelic being.

“Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in color to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude” (Daniel 10:5-6).

Take note of what the angel said. “Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words” (Daniel 10:12).

Think of this, Daniel was praying in the natural and his words were heard in the spiritual. The angel said Daniel’s words were heard on the first day he prayed but the answer to his prayer did not reach him until the twenty-first day. Daniels words were in a fight.

The angelic messenger revealed information Daniel did not know. There was war in the heavens. (This is called spiritual warfare.) A spiritual force was battling against him. “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia” (Daniel 10:13). Daniels words were fighting for understanding.

The angels of God were fighting while Daniel was praying. This is a powerful truth, words have the power to fight on your behalf in the unseen spirit world. This means something important for you. It means your words leave your mouth and enter an invisible realm around you. It means that your words give angels something to fight with. The angel said, “I have come for thy words.”

ANGELS, PROPHETS, AND INSTRUCTION

Words create an image of how you see yourself, others, and the world around you. Gideon had a terrible image of himself. Gideon lived in a time of Midianite oppression. Year after year they came during the harvest and plundered the people. The abuse was so bad the people hid in caves, dens, and strongholds. You can only imagine what it was like to work hard for a harvest only to have the fruits of your labor stolen by thieving marauders.

Fear, poverty, and despair swept the land. The people cried out to the Lord for deliverance. In response to the people’s prayers, God sent a prophet to speak to them.

“And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites, That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land; And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.” (Judges 6:7-10)  

The prophet reminded the people of God’s instruction, “Fear not the gods of the Amorites, but you have not obeyed my voice.” As already said, the instruction you obey determines the benefits you receive.

Fear had replaced faith. Gideon gives you an idea of the general thinking of the people at the time. Responding to an angelic visitation, Gideon said, “The LORD hath forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites” (Judges 6:13). You already know that faith cometh by hearing, but fear also cometh by hearing. These faithless words spread throughout the country. They were saying God had forsaken them.

Still responding to the prayers of the people, God sent an angelic messenger that appeared to Gideon. Notice the angel’s words to Gideon. “The LORD is with you, thou mighty man of valor” (Judges 6:12). Sometimes people don’t see themselves the way God sees them. We learned that from the spies that searched out the Promised Land. The faithless said, “We saw giants, and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight” (Numbers 13:33).

Gideon didn’t see himself as a mighty man of valor, but a man forsaken by God. “And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? And where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? But now the LORD hath forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites” (Judges 6:13).

Some people view their world the same as Gideon. They look at the size of their trouble, bank account, or family status instead of the size of their God. “And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house” (Judges 6:14-15).

Remember what the prophet said, “Fear not.” Words have meanings. There are faith-filled words and fear-filled words. Words are destinations. Words have power. Words tear down, throw down, destroy, build, and plant. (Spiritul warfare battles in the unseen spirit world with God's Word.) Fear has never won a battle against faith.

“And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face. And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die. Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites” (Judges 6:22-24).

Gideon’s image of himself had to change before he could do anything great for God. He needed to think of himself the way God thought of him. All change starts with words. Gideon became a great deliverer.
