The Prophets Calling on Jeremiah

Have you ever felt the weight of a calling on your life but felt inadequate to answer it? The prophet Jeremiah was called by the Lord to a great and mighty task, yet even he felt the weight of the Lord's words on his shoulders. But the Lord promised to be with him every step of the way and to give him the strength to fulfill his mission.

Jeremiah was anointed by the Lord as a prophet of God. Scripture says, "Then the LORD put forth his hand and touched my mouth." And the LORD said unto me, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth." "See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, to pull down, to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant" (Jeremiah 1:9–10).

The Lord was speaking to Jeremiah, who was called to be a prophetic spokesman. The Lord put his hand on Jeremiah's mouth to anoint him for ministry and to symbolically show that He was giving him the words to say. The Lord then declared that He had made Jeremiah a ruler over the nations and kingdoms to both tear down and build up. He was given the power to bring destruction to those who disobeyed God and to restore and rebuild those who followed the Lord.

The Lord also promised to be with Jeremiah every step of the way, no matter what. He declared that he would be Jeremiah's strength and help him in whatever task he was called to do. This was a great promise to Jeremiah, as it meant that he had the support of the Almighty God in his ministry. He was not alone; he had the strength of God behind him. The Lord wanted Jeremiah to know that he had not been chosen for this prophetic ministry by accident but that it had been God's plan for him from the beginning. He had been chosen to bring about God's will and to fulfill His plans.

Jeremiah was to be an instrument in God's hands, and the Lord's words were meant to encourage and reassure him. The Lord's words to Jeremiah were a reminder of His faithfulness and provision for His people. He had given Jeremiah the power to carry out His plans, and he was to be an example of faithfulness and obedience to the nations and kingdoms around him.

The Lord wanted Jeremiah to know that he had been chosen for a special purpose and that He would be with him the whole way. In summary, Jeremiah was anointed by the Lord as a prophet of God, with the Lord putting His hand on Jeremiah's mouth to symbolically show that He was giving him the words to say.

This promise is valid today for those that God calls into ministry. They can expect the Holy Spirit to anoint their calling.
