Spiritual Revival and Reformation: A Call to the Church

Spiritual Revival and ReformationThe church is in desperate need of spiritual revival and reformation. In an increasingly secular and hostile world, many believers have become complacent, lukewarm, discouraged, and apathetic. The fracturing of the church due to denominational divisions, for example, has also caused it to become stagnant and ineffective. As a result, it is essential that the church be spiritually renewed and reformed if it is to fulfill its mission and bring glory to God.  Thankfully, the Bible provides a scriptural answer to this need. Galatians 5:16 states, "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh." This verse is encouraging believers to live a life that is in accordance with the Spirit of God. It is a call to pursue holiness and godliness and to resist the temptations of the flesh. We are to walk in the Spirit, which includes relying on the Holy Spirit for guidance and power to live a life that is pleasing to God.

Romans 12:2 states, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." This verse is a call to believers to be transformed by the renewal of their minds, which includes replacing our old, worldly thoughts and desires with new, godly thoughts and desires. We are to focus on what is good, acceptable, and perfect according to God’s will. We are also to test all things so that we can discern what is from God and what is from the world. There is no doubt the church is in a spiritual battle, and the body of Christ needs to be equipped with the knowledge of its spiritual authority to combat the evil spirits of darkness.

2 Corinthians 13:5 states, "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves—that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test?" This verse is a call to believers to examine themselves and test themselves to make sure they are still in the faith. We are to make sure that we are still following Jesus and living according to His Word. We are to make sure that Jesus is still in us and that we are still meeting the standards of faith that He has set. We are to make sure that we are still living a life that is pleasing to God.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 states, "Test everything; hold fast what is good." This verse is a call to believers to test everything and hold fast to what is good. We are to make sure that we are not being led astray by false teachings and false doctrines. We are to make sure that we are only following what is good and true. We are to examine and test all things so that we can discern what is from God and what is from the world. We are to make sure that we are holding fast to what is good and true.

These verses of Scripture encourage believers to actively pursue spiritual revival and reformation. We must live a life that is in accordance with the Spirit of God, renew our minds, examine ourselves and test all things, and stir up one another to love and good works. As we do this, we can fulfill our purpose with the unified body of Christ and bring glory to God.

When the church is spiritually renewed and reformed, it can become a powerful force for good in the world. We can bring the light of Christ into the darkness, show love to the brokenhearted, give hope to the hopeless, and bring peace to the restless. We can proclaim the gospel, share the love of God, and make a difference in the lives of those around us. We can be a witness to the power of the living God and a beacon of hope to a world in desperate need.

Let us, then, take seriously the need for spiritual revival and reformation in the Church. Let us be diligent in our pursuit of holiness and godliness and in our desire to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. Let us test all things and hold fast to that which is good. Let us stir one another up for love and good works. Let us be faithful to our mission as the body of Christ and bring glory to God. Christ declared, The gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world as a witness.
