The Holy Spirit has been talking with me about greater measure, manifesting His glory, and the power of honor. He told me that whenever a person asks Him for something He will look for one of five things: decision, pursuit, obedience, expectation, and honor. Here are some things He showed me especially about the importance of honor.

A teacher is only pursued by those ready for the next level.

Nicodemus sought out Jesus and Sergius Paulus sought out Paul. Both lives were changed in a powerful way. Both sought out a teacher and found a greater measure. They were ready for the next level.

What you value you will pursue and who you honor you will become. We live in a generation that knows little about honoring others. This will hinder them in a mighty way. To honor means to show approval, respect, celebrate, esteem, value, appreciate, thank, compliment, and attend to. To dishonor means to put down, disdain, belittle, disesteem, show contempt, insult, disrespect, and not appreciate. Let’s explore some truths about honor.

Honor will move you into a place of favor.

A woman honored Jesus with the precious contents of an alabaster box.  Honor will always move you into a place of favor.

“There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble you the woman? For she hath wrought a good work upon me. For you have the poor always with you, but me you have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.” (Matthew 26:7-12)

Honoring Jesus moved this woman into the favor of God. We learn here that honor activated favor and favor positioned her in the miracle worker’s presence. Those that honor you qualify for a different relationship with you. When this woman honored the Lord, it shifted her into a different position with Christ.

Where you find honor, you find favor.

Where you find favor, you find finances. When you have finances you can build wealth.

Your prosperity level will always rise to the same height as your honor level.

Jesus spoke of measures,

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you mete withal, it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:38).

Honoring your leaders will release twice as much favor in your life.

If you want success, learn how to honor others, especially those that minister the Word of God to you.

“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially they who labor in the word and doctrine.” (1 Timothy 5:17)

Double the honor and double the favor.  

Favor is the place of privilege.

Honor unlocks favor, favor introduces privilege, and privilege leads to promotion. Joseph went from the prison to the palace because of favor.

“And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.” (Genesis 41:42-43)

Because of favor, Joseph got a new wardrobe, gold, and some fine transportation.

Favor is not found by accident.  

Favor is the result of honor. You find favor with God and favor with man when you apply God’s word to your life. Favor is not found by accident, it is the consequence of honoring another.

“My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.” (Proverbs 3:1-4)

Favor from one person can change your life forever.

Joseph found favor with Pharaoh and it changed his life and his families life forever.  “And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt”(Genesis 41:44). Because of favor, Joseph was propelled into national leadership. The man that will humble himself before God will find favor and stand in the presence of kings.

As you honor God, your barns will fill with finances.

Scripture declares, “Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine” (Proverbs 3:9-10). A person with empty barns has not learned how to honor God and others.

If a person does not honor God, they will not honor you.

Surround yourself with those that honor God and others. “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20). 

Show me what you value and who you honor and I will show you what you will become.

Make it a point to honor God, your leaders, employers, mentors, and those that model the Kingdom of God.
