The Divine Assignment of Adam: Understanding the Foundation of Manhood

Adam The Spirit Man

Discover the divine purpose for manhood as set out in the creation testimony of Adam. God's priority was the formation of a physical body, the making of a God-breathed spiritual man, the garden as a kingdom, the assignment of work for service, and the calling to govern. Understand how this is the essential foundation of family and society, and how the demonic realm targets manhood, marriage, and family.

Get in the Holy Spirit's presence and renew one's mind with the Word of God to understand the unique gifting and purpose for manhood. Man's identity comes from God, and his purpose is revealed by the Holy Spirit in the kingdom.

In the Garden of Eden, God fellowshipped with Adam spirit to spirit. This is an exciting truth because God first created an environment, an atmosphere, for the man to dwell. In this atmosphere, the man could fellowship and communicate with God. As a spirit led man, Adam was assigned the task of tending the garden. This is called work.

Notice the first two things God did after man’s creation. First, God created a spiritual atmosphere where his spirit man, Adam, could flourish. Second, God gave the man a work assignment.

The male was created a spirit being with a physical body and placed into a spiritual atmosphere with a physical assignment.

This truth starts to focus the male on what is the priority of his maker. That priority was the forming of a physical body, the making of a God-breathed spiritual man, the garden as a kingdom, the assignment of work for service, and the calling to govern.

Since God created man before the woman, it takes us to the doctrine of first things. In this instance, the creation of the male species indicates the foundation of the family and ultimately of society itself. Jesus spoke of a rock-solid foundation built on the word of God and obedience.

“Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock” (Luke 6:47-48).

Houses are built from the foundation upward. The fabric that holds a society together must rest on a firm foundation. This explains why there is such a demonic attack against manhood, marriage, and family. Scripture says, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalms 11:3).

After reading the creation testimony, it’s clear that society must include the firm foundation of the male species thriving in the atmosphere of faith and fellowship with God and fulfilling his divine assignment.

The divine assignment is that purpose for the man that comes from his creator. This purpose is not found in a job but in the ever unveiling and revealing of the male’s unique gifting. A man should never confuse a job, which may only be a temporary means of making money to support his family, with his divine calling and gifting. As said before, to understand gifting and purpose, you will need the help of the Holy Spirit.

Men, your identity comes from God and your purpose in life is revealed by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, you were created a spirit being with a physical body. Your understanding of purpose starts in the presence of the Holy Spirit, fellowship with God, and renewing your mind with the Word of God.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of wisdom. As said before, when you enter His presence, you enter the presence of wisdom. Scripture declares,

“But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5, ASV).

Getting in the Holy Spirit’s presence is where it all starts. The baptism of the Holy Spirit will get you moving in the right direction (Acts 1:8). Next, it’s important to renew your mind with the word of God. Renewing your mind with Scriptural truth doesn’t happen overnight. Renewing your mind is continual. Apostle Paul wrote,

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2).

You live in a world of propaganda and social engineering. This is why life can be confusing. Remember, the Holy Spirit is your teacher. His name is Spirit of Truth. This means you can depend on Him to help you understand your purpose and give you direction. Christ made it clear,

“But when He, the Spirit of Truth (Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the truth (the whole, full truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]” (John 16:13).

KINGDOM OF ADAM

The authority to rule was given to the spirit man. Not only did God make the man, he created his dwelling place. We could call this domain the kingdom. Just as it was God’s idea to create the spirit man with a physical body, it was also his idea to create Adam’s domain. That domain we could call the kingdom of Adam.

The garden of Eden was God’s creation, but it was Adam’s domain. The kingdom of God is a spiritual domain filled with the presence of God. It is a place that all Adams can abide in the presence of their creator. Scripture speaks of dwelling in His presence,

“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; so shall you be my disciples” (John 15:7-8).

The kingdom is the place designed to host Adam and the place that would respond to his leadership. More on this later.

ADAM, THE SPIRIT MAN

To take dominion means to rule. God said,

“Let us make man (Adam) in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion” (Genesis 1:26).

The Hebrew word for “dominion” is radah meaning to rule, have dominion, dominate, and tread down. The verb says to have dominion, rule, and subdue. This makes it clear, God’s original intent for mankind was to rule, govern, and administrate. Notice that rule (radah ) was given to Adam, the spirit being that had a physical body.

It’s needful to emphasize this truth again. The assignment to take dominion was given to the spirit man. It was the spirit man that could name all the creatures on the earth. It was the spirit man that God would fellowship. It was the spirit man that was given authority to rule, govern, and administrate. It was the spirit man that named the woman. It was the spirit man that was connected to God, Spirit to spirit.
