Faith and Patience: Keys to Receiving God's Promises

Are you struggling to receive God's promises in your life? Take heart, for the Bible encourages us to trust in God's promises and practice faith and patience. Through faith and patience, we can inherit the blessings of God. The Bible gives solid instructions to the disciples of Christ, saying, "Be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises" (Hebrews 6:12).

The author is encouraging readers to not be lazy or idle but to imitate those who have faith and persevere in their pursuit of the promises of God. He is calling them to be active and diligent in their faith, trusting that God will fulfill his promises to them if they remain faithful to Him. The promises that the author is referring to could include salvation, spiritual growth, healing, and many other blessings that God bestows on His followers.

Ultimately, the author is reminding readers that faith and patience are essential in order to receive God’s promises. So we learn, therefore, that faith and patience unlock another spiritual law; faith and patience make way for the inheritance of God's multiple blessings.

Inheriting the promises of God is the process of claiming and enjoying the blessings that God has promised to His followers. Again, these promises are found throughout the Bible. As said before, a promise from God gives faith the expectation of a predetermined end when acted on.

It's also worth noting that faith and patience work in tandem. When faith and patience work together, faith is trusting in God's promises, while patience is enduring and waiting for them to be fulfilled. Faith is believing that God will come through for you, even when it seems impossible, while patience is the ability to wait with hope and trust in God’s timing. Faith and patience must be practiced together in order to receive the promises of God. In other words, our faith must be accompanied by patience in order for us to receive the promised blessings of God.

God makes it clear not to be slothful, meaning lazy and apathtic, as seen in these scriptures.

"The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat." (Proverbs 13:4)

"The hands of the diligent will rule, but the slothful will be put to forced labor." (Proverbs 12:24)

"Whoever works with a slack and idle hand becomes poor, but the diligent hand makes rich." (Proverbs 10:4)

The disciple of Christ understands that faithful men are hard workers, but evil workers are lazy. This is a powerful contrast between faithful men and lazy men.

"I went by the field of the lazy man and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; and, behold, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles were covering its face, and its stone wall was broken down. Then I beheld and considered it well; I looked and received instruction. "Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep—so shall your poverty come as a robber, and your want as an armed man" (Proverbs 24:30–34).

In conclusion, the Bible teaches us that faith and patience are essential in order to receive God’s promises. We must not be sluggish in our faith, but rather diligent, trusting that God will keep his promises if we remain faithful to Him. Through faith and patience, we can inherit the wonderful blessings that God has in store for us. When we practice faith and patience together, we unlock God’s spiritual law and receive His promises.
