Finding Your Purpose By Putting Christ First

Let Purpose Find You 1What we lack most in life seems to be a sense of purpose. It’s unfortunate when you lack purpose because it causes you to lack direction. It clouds everything and offers nothing except confusion, despair, and disappointment.

Purpose is defined as “an intended outcome or something that guides your planned course of action.” Sound familiar? God says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11).

An expected end means that God has already mapped out a course of life for you. His expected end for you is one of absolute satisfaction. The key is seeking him. Here is what He said. “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart”(Jeremiah 29:13). That’s called putting God first. Jesus promised lots of benefits when you do. He said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).

During one of our workshops the question came up about sense of value and purpose. Most the class said when they heard that Christ had given them authority that revelation changed their approach to life. No longer did they feel like abandoned stepchildren with no real purpose in life. They were able to take hold of the promises of God by submitting themselves to God and resisting the devil, with his demonic plans and deceptions.

As a disciple of Christ, you have been given authority to bind and loose. That means the ability to allow and forbid. In fact Scripture declares, “God has not given you a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.” One day Christ sent his disciples into various villages to proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom. When they returned they returned with great joy and celebration. “And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:17-19).

It's God that wants to reveal his purpose in you. Do what the Bible says. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2).

Purpose is looking for you. It's found in putting Christ first.
